It’s quite a while now Apple has released a new version of MacBook Pro with retina display later with touch bar. All these new versions have a sleek design with everything onboard. This means the processor, RAM and, other accessories are all attached to the logic board. No doubt all the later version are lighter in weight and slimmer in looks when compare with the 2012 model. The retina display is amazing for a designer, video editor, and photographer. The MacBook Pro elevates to a whole new level of performance and portability. It comes with the new eighth-generation Intel 6‑core and quad-core processors. Up to 32GB of memory for running multiple heavy apps. Is it not impressive? Yes, but only you have INR 155808.00 for the touch bar and INR 132000.00 without the touch bar, not to mention the 15 inch which is much more expensive.

1. Easy to upgrade the HDD to SSD
The only version which is easily upgradeable is the MacBook Pro 2012. Even a normal guy like me can upgrade the HDD to SSD easily. You can upgrade to 1 TB SSD. The current lineup has a removable SSD but the upgrade drive is only available from Apple and replaceable by an Apple technician.
2. RAM is upgradeable
MacBook Pro 2012 model comes with 4 GB and 8 GB of memory. If you want to upgrade the memory, you need to purchase your desired brand of RAM and replace it. It doesn’t involve rocket science in the process. Replacing the RAM in MacBook Pro 2012 is as easy as another laptop. Maximum memory support is 16 GB and is quite enough to do whatever you want. As mention above, all the later model internal hardware is not reconfigurable. The RAM is attached to the logic board. You have no control in almost anything.
3. DVD Rom
The 2012 version of MacBook Pro has a DVD Rom. DVD era is not gone yet. You never know there will be a time you want to locate and stream old important files and videos on your laptop. Everything cannot be stored online. An external hard drive can be crushed anytime! For some people, DVD drive sill served a purpose.
4. Removable Battery
Hmmm! what would be the first thing you will do if your laptop is frozen. Simple, remove the battery, right! All the retina display model has no option for this old tradition troubleshooting because the battery is fixed. The battery is easily removable
5. The logic board is replaceable
All the later version of MacBook Pro are just like a box. You can’t do anything about the internal hardware. This is so irritating for a techie guy. The logic board of MacBook Pro 2012 is easily replaceable even by a local apple laptop repair shop.

MacBook Pro 2012 version is still worth buying in 2019
You will spend no more than 50,000 INR to have a good strong workforce MacBook pro. The only thing you need to do is to upgrade the internal hardware to your desired extent.
No doubt, all the latest version of MacBook pro are better and powerful than the older version. But, if you are in a tight budget Macbook Pro 2012 without retina is still worthy in 2019. Availability of brand new might be a problem, but refurbish versions are plenty.

The battery is replaceable though is not removable, you need to take it apart to remove it, it’s not like a pc laptop or an old macbook where you use a coin to flip a lock and remove it. Otherwise is still a pretty capable machine, specially if you max out the ram and put some fast SSD. Currently trying to get another one into the optical bay for a raid0 setup (900Mb/s easily attainable). Only thing is missing is another video output (retina 2012 has 3 built-in!)
